Designing a proposal writing module: a genre-based literacy app

The presenter will describe a 15-hour module on proposal writing offered as an elective course at a tertiary institution in Hong Kong. The aim of this module is to refine final-year undergraduate students’ report writing skills, specifically in the area of proposal writing, as this has been identified as one of the key types of documentation that fresh graduates will encounter in the workplace. The presenter will explain how the course adopts a socially-situated, genre-based literacy approach to the teaching of proposal writing, in which the discourse practices of the local professional community are examined to show how these are crucial in shaping this genre of writing
